Fair Futures: Regional Roadshows on Ethnicity Pay and Progression in Healthcare
A series of regional roadshows, taking place across the country between 18 September and 27 November 2025, will bring together NHS and healthcare leaders, managers, EDI professionals, clinicians, researchers, and advocates to confront and address the current state of racial inequalities within the NHS workforce.
Despite ongoing initiatives, data show that staff from Black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds, who make up approximately 30 per cent of the NHS workforce, continue to face disproportionate barriers to career progression. Persistent pay gaps also remain a concern: NHS England’s report on the diversity pay gap for 2023/24 reveals that ethnic minority staff — overall — are paid less on average than their White colleagues.
Throughout these events, which will feature keynote presentations, panel discussions, and interactive workshops, participants will explore data trends, research and impactful strategies for improvement. Case studies will not only highlight the challenges, but also the actions that can be taken to make the NHS a fairer and more equitable workplace for individuals from all ethnic backgrounds.
It’s essential that the system comes together to tackle racial bias and discrimination to improve staff experiences – not least because we know of the evidence-based link between fully engaged, supported staff, and better outcomes for all patients.
Who Should Attend:
Anyone tackling inequality within an NHS organisation at all levels – be that via EDI or health inequalities, examples including:
- Heads of Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion / Chief Diversity Officers
- Directors of Human Resources / Chief People Officers
- Health Inequalities Programme Leads
- Executive directors / Non-Executive Directors

- Clinicians
We also welcome researchers, trade union representatives and anyone committed to advancing racial equity in the NHS who fall outside of the above list.
